A Letter to My Congressman

Dear Congressman Moran,

I am the wife of a deployed United States Marine who has been stationed in the Middle East for the last six months. I am writing to voice my concerns about the possible government shutdown that will affect our family and force a hardship that is unjust, unconscionable, and simply appalling.

I stay at home to raise our two beautiful children who are both under the age of five. While I have a masters degree in education, I choose to raise our own until they are school age themselves. That means our family relies solely on my husband's income as our only source of income. Any delays or significant interruptions in his pay period will certainly cause hardships for our family. Hardships on top of the already impossible feat of raising a young family without its primary caretaker.

I sincerely hope Congress understands that my husband and all other service members show up to work without fail and/or excuses. So do their families back home. We push forward through daily struggles without them, steel ourselves for hardships that naturally arise and bully forward every single day with pride in what our spouses do for our country and what we are accomplishing in their spirit.

To engage in a government shutdown is wrong and in my opinion is punishing the wrong group of people. You are asking your guardians to work for free and pile more hardships up on their plate (late bills, auto deduction interruptions, inability to purchase basic groceries, etc.) The White House is biting the hands that so selflessly feed them.

Please let your voice be heard in support of our service members and their families. I appreciate your unique ability to express the interests of your local residents. I hope you appreciate my voice, its urgency and concern for all dutiful Americans negatively impacted by this impasse. It is a huge deal.

If nothing else, please hit Congress with this one: If you don't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.
